Wir nehmen Abschied von Chris Leek, unserem britischen Mensa-Mitglied und Ehrenpräsidenten von Mensa International, der am 20. März 2026 verstorben ist.
Chris trat im Alter von 21 Jahren Mensa bei und prägte die Organisation über viele Jahre hinweg – nicht nur in Großbritannien, sondern auch international. Er glaubte fest an die Kraft der Verbindung über nationale Grenzen, Kulturen und Perspektiven hinweg. Sein Engagement hinterließ bleibende Spuren bei Mensa und inspirierte durch seine Hingabe und Integrität unzählige Mitglieder.
Für uns in Deutschland war diese Verbindung zudem ganz persönlicher Art. Durch seine deutsche Mutter pflegte er eine enge Beziehung zu unserem Land und war regelmäßiger Gast bei unseren Veranstaltungen. Zuletzt durften wir ihn im Oktober 2025 beim International Board of Directors in Düsseldorf begrüßen.
Viele von uns erlebten Chris als umsichtig, engagiert und verbindend. Er nahm sich Zeit, zuzuhören und seine Sichtweisen zu teilen, häufig in fließendem Deutsch. Die Gespräche mit ihm werden uns in Erinnerung bleiben.
Wir werden Chris vermissen. Unsere Gedanken sind bei seiner Familie und allen, die ihm nahestanden.

We say farewell to Chris Leek, our British fellow Mensan and Honorary President of Mensa International, who passed away on March 20, 2026.
Chris joined Mensa at the age of 21 and went on to shape the organization over many years – not only in the United Kingdom, but also internationally. He firmly believed in the power of connection across national borders, cultures, and perspectives. His commitment left a lasting impact on Mensa and inspired countless members through his dedication and integrity.
For us in Germany, this connection was also deeply personal. Through his German mother, he had a close relationship with our country and was a regular guest at our events. Most recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming him at the International Board of Directors meeting in Düsseldorf in October 2025.
Many of us experienced Chris as thoughtful, engaged, and connecting. He took the time to listen and share his perspectives, usually in fluent German. The conversations with him will stay with us.
Chris will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and all who were close to him.
