The cathedral is a perfect Gothic cathedral. However, not all its components date from the Middle Ages. The cathedral was completed during the Industrial Revolution.
Nowhere is this more evident than on a tour across the cathedral's rooftops. Expecting a historic wooden roof truss? Prepare to be amazed by a delicate iron structure that's older than the Eiffel Tower. High above the city, explore unknown tower rooms with depots and workshops of the cathedral workshop. And be overwhelmed by one of the most spectacular views Cologne has to offer.This tour is only suitable for people who are comfortable with heights and are prepared to climb some 240 steps; minimum age of 16 years.
Just small bags or small backpacks are allowed (sized A4). Bigger packs mut be left behind. There is a luggage storage facility behind the Cologne Cathedral Shop at Roncalliplatz; if you plan to use it please ensure to have the time to drop your luggage since the tour starts 10 minutes after the event start time to allow checking in. Please dress appropriately for visiting a church - thank you. Please note: We can't book the exact time slots until July 1st. For this reason, we have quite a few possible time slots on offer but will reduce the slots before allocating seats unless interest in this tour is high enough to make all slots viable.
