Cologne Cathedral has always been a place that attracts people.

Every year, about 6 million people visit the cathedral as pilgrims, tourists or worshippers. Get to know Cologne Cathedral in its many facets, as a living place of faith, as a witness to the centuries, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and as a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.

Learn exciting facts about its construction and its history and feel the impressive effect of the architecture and its furnishings from the Shrine of the Three Kings to the "Richter-Fenster".

Important notes

Just small bags or small backpacks are allowed (sized A4). Bigger packs mut be left behind. There is a luggage storage facility behind the Cologne Cathedral Shop at Roncalliplatz; if you plan to use it please ensure to have the time to drop your luggage since the tour starts 10 minutes after the event start time to allow checking in.

Please dress appropriately for visiting a church - thank you.

Directions (from IBD Hotel)

Travel time is about 90 minutes
... including some potential waiting time for the trains you will take and the time locally in Cologne.
  • Take the foot bridge in front of Maritim Hotel towards the airport terminal C
  • Take the Sky Train in the Airport from "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal C" to "Düsseldorf Flughafen Bahnhof" (the railway station)
  • Walk to the railway train station "Düsseldorf Flughafen"
  • Take the regional train RE1 or RE5 to Cologne central station "Köln Hauptbahnhof"
    Note that the aforementioned regional trains pass through the central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof"

Directions (from Köln Hauptbahnhof)

Travel time is some 10 minutes
  • Leave Cologne central station using the exit to "Bahnhofsvorplatz" (on the side with platform 1)
  • The Cologne Cathedral is slightly to the left - and really hard to miss
  • Walk past the Cathedral with your back to the train station to the front of the Cathedral (the side with the two towers)
  • The meeting point is at the "DOMFORUM" which is the building opposite the Cathedral's towers with the word "FORUM" well visible.

Hint: You want to visit several events in Cologne so that you have to spend a bit over an hour to get to Cologne only once.
