Join us on a visit to a disused canal at the old Golzheim sewage treatment plant in the north of Düsseldorf! Here you can find out how the drainage of a large city works. Birgit Bremmenkamp, responsible for public relations at Stadtentwässerungsbetriebe Düsseldorf, will guide us through the 200-metre-long canal and give us some fascinating insights. The oldest parts of Düsseldorf's sewerage system date back to 1874 and are still partially intact today. The Golzheim sewage treatment plant, to which the visitor canal belongs, was built in the 1960s and is no longer in operation.
Experience the special atmosphere underground. It's unusually quiet down here and completely dark when we switch off our torches... it's not for the faint-hearted! Nevertheless, there are traces of life down here in the form of plants and small animals.
