Esperanto was published by Ludwig Zamenhof in Warsaw in 1887. Today, around 1 million people in over 100 countries speak Esperanto.

Esperanto estis publikigita en 1887 de Ludwig Zamenhof en Varsovio. Intertempe, ĉirkaŭ 1 miliono da homoj en pli ol 100 landoj parolas Esperanton.

Due to its regularity and clear structure, Esperanto can be learned around 5 to 10 times faster than other national languages. Already in his school days, Zamenhof had the idea that a neutral and quickly learnable language was necessary to prevent ghettoization and racism and to promote world peace.

In daily life, Esperanto is used by travellers who use a worldwide network of Esperanto-speaking hosts; at international Esperanto conferences and cultural festivals; to cultivate various hobbies such as friendships on social media, poetry or amateur radio. There is extensive original Esperanto literature, over 350,000 Wikipedia articles and more than one million YouTube videos.

The presentation will not only explain the structure of the language and present its history, culture and worldwide organization. There will also be a short Esperanto language course and music, literature and films will be presented. Finally, we will show how Esperanto can be used in practice (after all, the speaker has already been a guest of Esperanto speakers in over 30 countries).

Short vita

Dr. Rainer Kurz from Stuttgart is press spokesman for the German Esperanto Association and its former president. He is deputy chairman of the FAME Foundation, which awards the worldwide Esperanto Culture Prize, founder of the Rainer Kurz Fondaĵo, board member of the worldwide Esperanto Business Association (IKEF) and chairman of the Sydney Language Festival Association.

In 2014, he initiated the first worldwide Esperanto short film competition, which included film festivals in Germany, France, Australia and China. Rainer learned Esperanto at the age of 27 at the Volkshochschule Stuttgart and has travelled to over 30 countries using Esperanto.

Notes

Please accept that we charge for this event in order to pay for the rent of the room. It would be unfair to include the rent into the base fee of the IBD+ 2025 making everyone pay for it instead of just those attending the presentations and workshops. Furthermore, experience from former annual gatherings in Germany have shown that if a presentation or workshop has a price tag rather those interested sign up for it thus offering them a better chance to get a slot. Thank you.

We have three rooms for the presentations and workshops in DUS Conference Plus that can accommodate a different number of guests. We will swap rooms if the interest in the event suggests we do so.
