Twice exceptional students – gifted students who have a neurodivergence such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia or dyscalculia – face unique difficulties at school. They may be too disabled to be identified as gifted and/or too gifted to access the accommodations they would need to help them with their learning differences.

This lecture will discuss how to identify twice exceptional students, what unique challenges they face and how to help them unfold their potential. As a former twice exceptional student and as a mother and secondary education teacher of twice exceptional students I have been able to gain experience with this underserved population of students in various roles.

Short vita

Anna Heidenblut, born 1978, has been a member of Mensa Germany since 1994. She is a graduate chemist with a doctorate in tumour research.

She has been teaching chemistry and physics at secondary schools in Duisburg (Germany), Quito (Ecuador) and Frankfurt am Main (Germany) since 2011. She has taught students with various disabilities (hearing, vision and mobility impairments, autism, ADHD) in an inclusive setting throughout her teaching career.

Notes

Please accept that we charge for this event in order to pay for the rent of the room. It would be unfair to include the rent into the base fee of the IBD+ 2025 making everyone pay for it instead of just those attending the presentations and workshops. Furthermore, experience from former annual gatherings in Germany have shown that if a presentation or workshop has a price tag rather those interested sign up for it thus offering them a better chance to get a slot. Thank you.

We have three rooms for the presentations and workshops in DUS Conference Plus that can accommodate a different number of guests. We will swap rooms if the interest in the event suggests we do so.
