The earlier bearer of Clarke’s name should not try to impress the Artist of Death with this:

If you want to know how such jokes are constructed (and what the punchline of this one is), this presentation is ideal.

In my experience, Mensans often possess a very special sense of humour, enjoying complex and knowledge-based humour. Indeed, humour itself is a complex social phenomenon that is intellectually interesting both in its theoretical study and practically through the intellectual humour that appeared continuously in the history of communication. Therefore, we take a look at intellectual humour both in high and popular culture and at specific fields such as mathematical humour, scientific humour, allusive humour and humorous factual writing.

Furthermore, I give an introduction to interdisciplinary theories and general history of humour. The examples we look at include ancient comedies, humorous poetry, humorous literature and the humour of music, but also jokes and intellectually appealing tv shows such as The Simpsons. I also give practical examples of writing intellectual humour. As humour is still subjective, I hope we can enjoy a discussion at the end of the presentation.

Short vita

I am a Mensa member since 2023 and enjoy it very much, particularly discussing very special topics with interesting people. Recently, I spent one year in London, where I went to the German School London and attended courses in Mathematics and Physics at Imperial College London. I am currently an Abitur student in Weilheim in Southern Bavaria.

Notes

Please accept that we charge for this event in order to pay for the rent of the room. It would be unfair to include the rent into the base fee of the IBD+ 2025 making everyone pay for it instead of just those attending the presentations and workshops. Furthermore, experience from former annual gatherings in Germany have shown that if a presentation or workshop has a price tag rather those interested sign up for it thus offering them a better chance to get a slot. Thank you.

We have three rooms for the presentations and workshops in DUS Conference Plus that can accommodate a different number of guests. We will swap rooms if the interest in the event suggests we do so.
