Why do we find ourselves in the same difficult situations again and again? Situations in which we feel sad, angry, hurt or frustrated – and which we actually want to avoid? Why do we find it so difficult to break old patterns, even though we often clearly recognize them and know exactly that these behaviours are not getting us anywhere?

Gifted people are cognitively strong – meaning to think a lot, analyse sharply and often understand problems very precisely on a rational level. And this is often precisely where the dilemma lies: all this knowledge doesn’t help if the emotional reactions remain the same and the body goes into alert state every time.

In this lecture, we look at the psychological mechanisms that keep us trapped in such emotional vicious circles – and why we often cannot act differently despite all the rational clarity. In the interactive part, participants will receive impulses and ideas on how they can beginn to break this cycle: Instead of continuing to get lost in thoughts and becoming frustrated that nothing changes despite all the cognitive understandig the aim is to experience real tangible changes in everyday life – so that your cognitive strength and thought energy can be used again for joyful reflecting and cognitive growth instead of frustrating thought spirals.

Short vita

Melanie is Empowerment Coach and expert in authentic communication. As an active Mensan, she knows the world of gifted people not just from theory, but from real life: constant brooding, analysis loops for every kind of problem – and at the same time the inner pressure to always achieve more. It’s gruelling – and rarely makes you truly happy.

She has been volunteering for years to support gifted children in Germany and Denmark and will complete her master’s degree in psychology in 2025. Today, she mentors people to break old patterns and finally feel enough – and by that stop to please everyone but themselves. Gifted people shall be able to use their own cognitive strength again for what really brings joy – their own thinking, thoughts that awaken and grow curiosity and a real clarity of mind.

Notes

Please note that you can reach the 3rd floor by stairs, or by elevator but in order to use the elevator you will need a key card. We have a very few key cards in the organisation office so if you do need to use the elevator please come to the organisation office for assistance.

Please accept that we charge for this event in order to pay for the rent of the room. It would be unfair to include the rent into the base fee of the IBD+ 2025 making everyone pay for it instead of just those attending the presentations and workshops. Furthermore, experience from former annual gatherings in Germany have shown that if a presentation or workshop has a price tag rather those interested sign up for it thus offering them a better chance to get a slot. Thank you.
