The Engelshaus in Wuppertal was the residence of the family of Friedrich Engels who was born in Barmen in Wuppertal. He and Karl Marx are known as the "Inventors of scientific socialism".

In a guided tour of one hour, you learn some interesting information about the life and the family background of Friedrich Engels and the spirit and the living culture of the 19th century in Germany.

Before and after that we recommend you to combine the visit in the museum with some other event in Wuppertal and a nice ride with the "Wuppertaler Schwebebahn" which is like a flying tram (nearest station is Wuppertal Adlerbrücke).

Travel time is about 95 minutes
... including some potential waiting time for the trains you will take and the time locally in Wuppertal.
  • Take the foot bridge in front of Maritim Hotel towards the airport terminal C
  • Head for the local transport train station in the basement of terminal C "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal (S)"
  • Take the local train S1 or S11 to Düsseldorf central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof" (5 stops)
  • Take the local train RE4 towards "Dortmund Hbf"
    Or the local train RE13 towards "Hamm/Wesfalen Hbf"
    Or the local train S8 towards "Wuppertal Oberbarmen"
  • Get off at "Wuppertal Barmen"
  • Continue as detailed below

Directions (from Wuppertal Barmen)

Travel time is some 10 minutes
  • Take exit "Wuppertal Barmen Bf"
  • Head with train station in your back to "Hans-Dietrich-Genscher-Platz"
  • Continue slightly to the left on "Kurz-Drees-Straße"
  • Turn left onto "Friedrich-Engels-Allee" at next crossing
  • At next intersection after some 250m turn left into "Engelsstraße"
  • The Engelshaus is on the right-hand side

Hint: You want to visit several events in Solingen and/or Wuppertal so that you have to spend over an hour to get to that region.
Please note that the train runs some 5 minutes between "Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof" - "Wuppertal Barmen" - "Wuppertal Oberbarmen"
