Delve into three centuries of olfactory artistry, beginning in the Rococo era with the renowned perfumer Johann Maria Farina (1685-1766). Admire exquisite flacons, paintings, and art objects that illuminate the fascinating origins of the original Eau de Cologne. Experience the evolution of perfumery firsthand and allow yourself to be enveloped in the enchanting world of scents.

This exclusive tour allows for a personalized exploration of the historic building. You will discover a diverse collection of antique fragrance bottles, showcasing the evolution of perfume presentation, and have the opportunity to engage their sense of smell by sampling high-quality fragrance essences. This private tour offers a unique and intimate exploration of the origins and legacy of Eau de Cologne.

Notes

The museum is located in a historic building without a guest bathroom and is not barrier-free. Expect to climb stairs!

Important notes

Attention! Following items are not allowed in the museum:
  • Backpacks, bags, suitcases, purses etc. (a free wardrobe with free lockers is available near the cashier of the museum).
    To allow some time to lock up your belongings the tour starts 15 minutes after the event begins.
  • Drinks and food.
  • Pets and animals (for example dogs, except service dogs for guests with disabilities).
  • Walkers, strollers etc.
  • Fotos and videos are not allowed in the museum, but you can take fotos in the historical shop.

Travel time is about 105 minutes
... including some potential waiting time for the trains you will take and the time locally in Cologne.
  • Take the foot bridge in front of Maritim Hotel towards the airport terminal C
  • Take the Sky Train in the Airport from "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal C" to "Düsseldorf Flughafen Bahnhof" (the railway station)
  • Walk to the railway train station "Düsseldorf Flughafen"
  • Take the regional train RE1 or RE5 to Cologne central station "Köln Hauptbahnhof"
    Note that the aforementioned regional trains pass through the central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof"

Directions (from Köln Hauptbahnhof)

Travel time is some 25 minutes
  • Leave Cologne central station using the exit to "Bahnhofsvorplatz" (on the side with platform 1)
  • Cross the square in front of the central station heading slightly to the left
  • Head into the "Trankgasse "
  • Just after passing the cathedral turn to the left and passing by the front of it
  • After passing the cathedral turn left and after a few steps right to head onto "Rocalliplatz"
  • Cross the "Roncalliplatz" with the cathedral in your back
  • You will reach the street "Am Hof" after some 100m
  • Continue straight into the street "Unter Goldschmied"
    If you see "Spreestraße" you're too far left - so turn right on "Am Hof" and then after a few steps left into "Unter Goldschmied"
  • After 260 m turn left into "Obermannspforten"
  • The destination is right there on the left-hand side.

Hint: You want to visit several events in Cologne so that you have to spend a bit over an hour to get to Cologne only once.
