Up to 450,000 tons of waste can be incinerated annually at the waste incineration plant in Flingern. The resulting steam is used for electricity and district heating generation.
During the tour, visitors will learn about the waste bunker, the roller grate firing system developed in Düsseldorf, the ash bunker, and the control room.
Important notes
During the tour, safety helmets must be worn. People with a fear of heights should be aware that part of the path is made of metal grates. Sturdy footwear is mandatory.
The Waste Incineration Plant of Stadtwerke Düsseldorf requires a list of participants with first and last name. If you book this event, you agree that we pass this data on to Stadtwerke Düsseldorf

Directions (from IBD Hotel)
Travel time is about 80 minutes ... including some potential waiting time for the trains you will take
- Leave the Maritim Hotel through the main entrance on the ground floor next to the reception
- Turn left and walk past the staircase tower of "Parking 8" towards the airport building and enter it
- You are now on the arrivals level - follow the signs for "S-Bahn S11/Local trains"
- Just in front of McDonald’s, take the moving walkway down to the station
- Take the local train S6 or S11 in direction of Düsseldorf central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)" up to "D-Wehrhahn" (4 stops)
Try to move up to the front of the train to shorten the transfer at "D-Wehrhahn"
The S11 to "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)" departs from platforms 10 and 11 - At the station follow the signs to the exit "Ausgang Ackerstraße" via a long pedestrian bridge
- At street level, walk to the traffic lights to your right and cross the streets. Use a total of 3 crossings onwards and slightly to your right until you end up at the bus stop on the bridge.
- Take the bus 738 in the direction "D-Hubbelrath" or "D-Dreherstraße"
- Exit the bus at the station "D-Fortunaplatz"
- Walk back a few meters to the crossing and then turn right into "Flinger Broich"
- After some 150 meters the entrance is on your left hand side

Travel time is approx. 30 minutes
- Take the bus 738 in the direction "D-Hubbelrath" or "D-Dreherstraße"
- Exit the bus at the station "D-Fortunaplatz"
- From here on please follow the directions above.
