K21 presents the international contemporary art collection of the Kunstsammlung North Rhine-Westphalia and is located in the former Ständehaus by the Kaiserteich in Düsseldorf.
The collection includes photographs by Thomas Struth, sculptures by Thomas Schütte, and video art by Robert Wilson, among others.
A key highlight is Reinhard Mucha’s “Das Deutschlandgerät” (The Germany Device, 1990/2021), installed in the former plenary hall since K21 opened in 2002.
This work reflects the historical dimensions of contemporary artistic practice.
Important notes
The guided tour starts 10 minutes after the advertised starting time of the event. This is to give you time to get organized before the event, e.g. put your bags/jackets in the lockers, go to the bathroom, … Directions (from IBD Hotel)
Travel time is about 65 minutes ... including some waiting time for the trains you will take since being late is no option.
- Leave the Maritim Hotel through the main entrance on the ground floor next to the reception
- Turn left and walk past the staircase tower of "Parking 8" towards the airport building and enter it
- You are now on the arrivals level - follow the signs for "S-Bahn S11/Local trains"
- Just in front of McDonald’s, take the moving walkway down to the station
- Take the local train S6 or S11 in direction of Düsseldorf central Station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)" up to "Düsseldorf Wehrhahn" (4 stops)
- Get up on the bridge and cross the tracks, but stay on the traffic island in the middle of the street.
- Take the local subway U71 in direction "D-Hellriegelstraße"
Or the local subway U72 in direction "D-Benrath Btf"
Or the local subway U73 in direction "D-Uni Ost/Botanischer Garten"
Or the local subway U83 in direction "D-Hellriegelstraße" - Get off at "D-Graf-Adolf-Platz U" (5 stops)
- Underground, follow the signs for "K21"
- Proceed on "Elisabethstraße" in the direction the subway ran
- Turn right onto "Ständehaustraße"
- The destination is on the left-hand side

Travel time is approx. 25 minutes
- Take the local train S1 or S11 in the direction "Düsseldorf Flughafen" up to the station "Wehrhahn"
- Then proceed as indicated above
