Guided Tour Puppet Theatre “Düsseldorfer Marionettentheater“

Düsseldorf's marionette theater is located in Palais Wittgenstein.

Its repertoire includes 22 full-length productions. Everything that can be seen on stage is created in the theater's own workshops.

In around 150 performances a year, the five-member ensemble presents lively and contemporary puppet theater for adults and children aged 8 and older. The Düsseldorfer Marionetten-Theater is supported by the city of Düsseldorf.

There is a lot to discover backstage during the one-hour guided tour: Through the foyer and the auditorium, the tour goes backstage and continues in the theater cellar through workshops, the rehearsal stage and the large stockroom, where 500 marionettes await their big performance.

Drawings, models and stage sets convey the long, creative process of creating a production.

Directions (from IBD Hotel)

• Take the foot bridge in front of Maritim Hotel towards the airport terminal C
• Head for the local transport train station in the basement of terminal C "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal (S)"
• Take the local train S1 or S11 towards Düsseldorf central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof" and get off at "Wehrhahn" (4 stops)
• On the platform, use the escalators near the end of the train to get up to the bridge
• On the bridge, cross the tracks to get to the subway station in the middle of the road (yes, the subway is ABOVE ground at this station...)
• Take the local subway U71 or U83 in direction "D-Hellriegelstraße" or "D-Rath S"
  Or the local subway U72 in direction "D-Benrath Btf"
  Or the local subway U73 in direction "D-Uni Ost/Botanischer Garten"
• Get off at "D-Benrather Straße U" (4 stops)
• Underground, follow the signs "Ausgang Benrather Straße Carlsplatz Kasernenstraße" take the escalators up and exit the station
• Go straight ahead into "Benrather Straße" and follow that street for some 150 meters
• Turn left into "Bilker Straße"
• After 100 meters the destination on the right-hand side

Directions (from Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof)

• Take the local train S1 or S11 in the direction "Düsseldorf Flughafen" up to the station "Wehrhahn"
• Then proceed as indicated above
