We start our walk at "Behrensbau" on the banks of the rhine. Learn more about the architecture of the buildings „Mannesmann-Hochhaus“, the state parliament, "Villa Horion" and KIT (the name is derived from the German phrase "Kunst im Tunnel" translated "art in a tunnel", an exhibition space located right under Düsseldorf’s Rhine embankment).

Please note: You will only visit the buildings from the outside.

Notes

The tour takes place outside along the banks of the rhine and is suitable for wheelchairs to a limited extent
... and you want to dress according to the weather.

Important notes

The walk ends near the Rhine Tower... so perhaps you want to take a look-and-see:

There is a viewing platform (two public lifts at a speed 4m/s) at a height of 168 meters. The entrance fee is 12,50€ (to be paid by you there), but the view from the top is great, so take the opportunity and visit Düsseldorf's landmark.

Directions (from IBD Hotel)

Travel time is about 70 minutes ... including some waiting time for the trains you will take since being late is no option.
  • Take the foot bridge in front of Maritim Hotel towards the airport terminal C
  • Head for the local transport train station in the basement of terminal C "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal (S)"
  • Take the local train S1 or S11 towards Düsseldorf central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof" and get off at "Wehrhahn" (4 stops)
  • Take the local subway U71 in direction "Hellriegelstraße"
    Or the local subway U72 in direction "D-Benrath"
    Or the local subway U73 in direction "D-Uni Ost/Botanischer Garten"
  • Get off at "D-Benrather Straße U" (4 stops)
  • Turn left relative to the train ride into "Benrather Straße"
  • After a 250m walk turn left into "Orangeriestraße"
  • Turn right after 100m into "Bäckerstraße"
  • You will reach the bank of the rhine after 150m
  • Turn left onto "Mannesmannufer"
  • After a 200m walk the destination is on the left-hand side

Directions (from Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof)

Travel time is approx. 35 minutes
  • Take the local train S1 or S11 in the direction "Düsseldorf Flughafen" up to the station "Wehrhahn"
  • Then proceed as indicated above
  • ... or find some more direct route
