When do tones truly resonate in harmony – and when do they clash?

What role do mathematics, proportions and calculation play in shaping what we hear?

Why does a piano, no matter how perfectly tuned, always sound slightly out of tune?

Most intriguingly, what might the harmonies of the future sound like?

Join us in exploring the questions and more.

Short vita

Olaf Burmeister studied classical composition and music theory before embarking on a career in the aviation industry — an unexpected path that never dulled his deep fascination with sound. Though his professional journey took a different route, musicology has remained a lifelong passion. Today, he brings a unique perspective to the evolving relationship between music, mathematics and technology.

Notes

Please accept that we charge for this event in order to pay for the rent of the room. It would be unfair to include the rent into the base fee of the IBD+ 2025 making everyone pay for it instead of just those attending the presentations and workshops. Furthermore, experience from former annual gatherings in Germany have shown that if a presentation or workshop has a price tag rather those interested sign up for it thus offering them a better chance to get a slot. Thank you.

We have three rooms for the presentations and workshops in DUS Conference Plus that can accommodate a different number of guests. We will swap rooms if the interest in the event suggests we do so.
