How can we bring art, science, and philosophy synchronised in such a way that we can get a new perspective on what we call ‘reality’? What is the role of the highly gifted in this all? What fascinates me as a visual artist as well as a philosopher is the concept of measurability. The boundaries between fixed and fluid; between sharp and vague; between coloured and non-coloured; between love and hate. When does one state of affairs turn into the other? When is something still measurable? And: is it important for something to be measurable at all? Trying to shed light on these questions, I merge photography with philosophy and theoretical considerations from physics.

Drawing from my latest publication, ZERO POINT (2024), I compare the ideas of physicist David Bohm (Wholeness and the Implicate Order, 1980) with Jungian art-based research and the implications that come with being highly/profoundly gifted. I argue that highly gifted people have something unique to add to the so-called ‘fundamental questions’, for instance, what the nature of reality is. Something that has been largely overlooked until now. It leads me to a conclusion which amounts to a spiritual attitude in which experience is leading.

Several factors underscore its timeliness: a renewed interest in what we call ‘reality’, the imploding of several societal systems with or without increasing threat of violence, and the urge for a new, more humanistic, approach.

Short Vita

Tine Wilde (1955, Nijmegen, The Netherlands) combines art and philosophy in a unique way. She does not philosophise about art, but produces projects in which art and philosophy are entirely integrated and reinforce one another. She studied Fine Art at AKI Academy of Art & Design in Enschede and read philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, where she obtained a PhD for merging philosophical insights with her artwork in the project ‘Do Not Erase’ and publication Remodel[l]ing Reality (2008).

Her multilayered and interdisciplinary work encompasses site-specific installations, performance, and photography. She became known for her performance ‘Von Märchen und Gespenster’ in Cologne (1992) and for her research in the fallout shelter of Dalfsen (1998). Work is included in various museological collections such as MoMA New York, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and Tate Modern London. Related to the projects, she delivers public lectures on a regular basis. More information can be found on her website www.tinewilde.com.

Notes

Please accept that we charge for this event in order to pay for the rent of the room. It would be unfair to include the rent into the base fee of the IBD+ 2025 making everyone pay for it instead of just those attending the presentations and workshops. Furthermore, experience from former annual gatherings in Germany have shown that if a presentation or workshop has a price tag rather those interested sign up for it thus offering them a better chance to get a slot. Thank you.

We have three rooms for the presentations and workshops in DUS Conference Plus that can accommodate a different number of guests. We will swap rooms if the interest in the event suggests we do so.
