Opencast Mining Garzweiler/Hambach
A guide will await you and the tour will then proceed past the already recultivated areas of the Hambach open-cast mine. During the bus journey, you will learn more about renewable energies, water management, forestry and agricultural recultivation, as well as the relocation of parts of the population. At the edge of Europe’s largest open-cast mine, you will have the opportunity to leave the bus at two viewing points.
On one side of the mine, bucket-wheel excavators can be observed at work, while on the other side, spreaders are in operation. Between them lies a network of kilometre-long conveyor systems and supply lines.
The tour then passes through Manheim-Alt, now a ghost village, and Manheim-Neu, the newly built village created after the resettlement.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to drive into the open-cast mine.
You will be picked up by a modern coach from Maritim Hotel Düsseldorf - and returned back there after the trip.

Please note that we have reserved this trip as an option to not risk having to pay for it despite lack of interest. As soon as we have enough statements of interest, we will confirm it.
Important notes
Weatherproof clothing and shoes for a stroll on uneven terrain.
As the shoes might be very dirty due to the visit to the open-cast lignite mine, either bring a change of shoes or wear shoe covers (will be provided by the driver) on the bus to avoid extra cleaning costs for the bus.
Lunch: Since there is no(t much) time for a lunch time stop and the Bistro at Schloss Paffendorf is closed during weekdays (Monday-Friday), we recommend you bring a lunch package; you can book one from Maritim Hotel and we're currently looking for alternatives.
If you book this event for several people and whan lunch packs please make sure to enter the correct number of lunch packages.
