Guided tour at the disused steelworks in Duisburg-Meiderich.
Industrial monument, park and event location: Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park.
We explore the 'Landschaftspark Nord' - a symbol of structural change. The park closely associates itself with the past uses of the site: a coal and steel production plant (abandoned in 1985) and the agricultural land it had been prior to the mid 19th century.
Now there's Europe's largest artificial diving centre (created in an old gasometer), alpine climbing gardens have been created in ore storage bunkers, a casting hall has been turned into a high ropes course and an extinct blast furnace has been converted into a viewing tower.
