During this city tour, you'll discover Art Nouveau buildings and places steeped in history, and learn stories that shine a light on Schwabing as Munich's best-known trendy district.

Altschwabing in particular embodies Munich’s golden years and awakens feelgood pride in every local even today. In the heyday of Schwabing's bohemian movement around 1900, artists and writers settled around the university and art academy and shaped the spirit of Schwabing. Ever since, the people here have thought more progressively and lived more freely – the men’s shirts were always unbuttoned further and the women dressed more outrageously than in the rest of Munich.

The spirit of rebellion, daydreaming and debating in pubs and bars persisted as part of the character of Schwabing, and the authorities and bourgeoisie were provoked from here time and time again.

In our days, Schwabing still holds a university and all the infrastructure - book shops, cafes and shopping - that artists, students and their likes need.
