Munich was the cradle of Nazism – the NSDAP was founded here, the Hitler Putsch failed here, and the city was later called the "Capital of the Movement.” The city tour begins at Königsplatz, where museums that were once temples of culture were repurposed by the Nazis as shrines to their ideology. Passing historic sites such as the NS Documentation Center, the former Gestapo headquarters in the destroyed Wittelsbacher Palais, and the Feldherrnhalle, the tour sheds light on how Hitler gained support within Munich’s society and and how the city dealt with this difficult legacy after 1945.
