When the honorable townsfolk go to sleep, the night watchman come to life. In the flickering glow of a sooty lantern, old legends awaken once more. The night watchman knows every hidden path and narrow corner of the city. With his halberd and billowing cloak, he guides the way through the darkness. The choice is yours: Since the main route is closed, walking and driving take the same amount of time, both 25 minutes.
If you walk, it's 1.8 km, and if you drive, it's still 1.1 km.
Both alternatives are described below.
Walking route:
- Leave the hotel, keep right and follow Hochstraße.
- After approx. 50 m (in front of the Sudeten German Museum), turn left towards Riggauerweg.
- Walk down Riggauerweg.
- Cross the intersection of Lilienstraße and Zeppelinstraße towards Ludwigsbrücke.
- Cross the Isar via the Ludwigsbrücke bridge.
- Follow Zweibrückenstraße for approx. 400 m, staying on the left-hand side of the road.
- Cross Frauenstraße at the intersection.
- Continue straight ahead along Tal.
- After 600 m, you will reach the archway of the Old Town Hall.
- Go through it and you will reach Marienplatz on the other side.
- The Mariensäule is located right in the middle of the square.
Route:
- Leave the hotel, keep right and follow Hochstraße.
- After approx. 50 m (in front of the Sudeten German Museum), turn left toward Riggauerweg.
- Walk down Riggauerweg.
- Cross the intersection of Lilienstraße and Zeppelinstraße towards Ludwigsbrücke.
- Cross the Isar via Ludwigsbrücke.
- Immediately at the end of the bridge, turn right at the traffic lights at the Erhardtstraße intersection.
- The Ludwigsbrücke bus stop is located here. Take bus line 132 towards Marienplatz and travel three stops to Marienplatz.
- In the direction of travel, you will see the archway of the Old Town Hall in front of you.
- Go through it and you will reach Marienplatz on the other side.
- The Mariensäule (Marian Column) is located right in the middle of the square.
