The tour explores the origins and rise of National Socialism in Munich, the city's unique role within the dictatorship's system of terror, and the complex process of coming to terms with this past since 1945.

The tour begins in Munich at the end of WWI. Starting with the November Revolution of 1918, it examines the formation and rise of the Nazi Party (NSDAP: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei = National Socialist German Workers' Party), the workings of the Nazi state, and living conditions in Munich during the Nazi era. Furthermore, it aims to answer the following questions: Why did Munich play such a significant role during this epoche? Which groups of people were marginalized and persecuted during the Nazi period? How did the majority of society react to the Nazi rule?

Wegbeschreibung (ab Tagungshotel)

  • Leave the hotel and cross the street.
  • Keep right and follow the elevated road for about 50 meters.
  • Just before the Sudeten German Museum, turn left onto Riggauerweg.
  • Follow the road down the hill and turn right.
  • Continue along Riggauerweg (do not turn onto Lilienberg) until you reach the intersection of Lilienstraße and Rosenheimer Straße.
  • Cross the street at the traffic lights towards the bridge.
  • Walk across the Ludwigsbrücke bridge to the “Deutsches Museum” tram stop.
  • Take tram 17 (towards Amalienburgstraße).
  • Travel to Sendlinger Tor (4 stops, journey time approx. 10 minutes).
  • At Sendlinger Tor, go into the subway station and head towards the U2 “Feldmoching” (via Hauptbahnhof) on the mezzanine level.
  • Take the U2 towards “Feldmoching” and travel 2 stops (5 minutes) to Königsplatz.
  • Follow the platform straight ahead in the direction of travel and leave the station via exit B.
  • Once at the top, walk straight ahead across Königsplatz towards Brienner Straße.
  • Your destination is on the left-hand side (approx. 300 m).
