The DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt) is the national aeronautics and space research centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.
The tour lasts approx. three hours, and the following institutes and facilities will be visited depending on availability:
- European Astronaut Centre (ESA)
- Microgravity User Support Centre MUSC (DLR)
- Institute of Aerospace Medicine (DLR)
- High-flux solar furnace, Institute of Future Fuels (DLR) Availability estimated from 2025 on
- DLR/ESA Luna Analog Facility (Visitor room)
Notes
The tour starts at 14:00h (2 pm); the event starts 15 minutes earlier due to the registration process.
DLR does not charge us for the tour. The price for this event is a cost allocation to cover general expenses of the IBD+.
Important notes
Please note these things:
- Participants must be at least 16 years old.
- DLR needs a list of participants with first and last names, nationalities and birthdays (details see below).
- Visitors are requested to identify themselves at the gate with an identity card or passport.
Unfortunately, substitute documents cannot be accepted! It is not possible to enter the premises without a valid identification document! - Video and photo recordings are not permitted anywhere on the premises.
- Please bear in mind that the DLR site is very extensive and the walking time between individual institutes can be up to 20 minutes.
- For safety reasons, it is not possible for individual participants to leave the tour earlier than the rest of the group.
- The consumption of food is not permitted in the institutes and rooms during the visit.
- There is no seating during the tour.
- Please adapt your clothing to the weather conditions.
- Facilities for the disabled are available.
DLR requires a list of participants with first and last name, nationality and birthday. If you book this event, you agree that we pass this data on to DLR. The data is stored for a period of 5 years after the date of the visit. Please enter your nationality in the text field labelled "Nationality"; your name and birthday we have in your account already.
Please note that if you fail to enter your nationality,
we may cancel your booking and give the slot to the next person on the list.
You accept that this ticket is non-transferable as of October 1
st since we then pass on the personal information - and everybody must book it indivdually due to the need to send your personal data.

Travel time is about 150 minutes
... including some potential waiting time for the trains you will take and the time locally in Cologne.
- Take the foot bridge in front of Maritim Hotel towards the airport terminal C
- Take the Sky Train in the Airport from "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal C" to "Düsseldorf Flughafen Bahnhof" (the railway station)
- Walk to the railway train station "Düsseldorf Flughafen"
- Take the regional train RE1 in the direction " Aachen"
Or the regional train RE5 in the direction " Koblenz" - Get off the train at Cologne central station "Köln Hauptbahnhof"
Note that the aforementioned regional trains pass through the central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof"

Travel time is some 70 minutes including some more reserve time for waiting on transport just in case.
- Take the local train S12 or S19 in the direction of "Hennef Blankenberg Bf" or "Windeck Au (Sieg)"
- Get off the train at "Porz / Wahn S-Bahn" (6 stops)
- Take the bus 162 in the direction of "Köln Wahnheide DLR"
- Get off the bus at "Köln DLR" (9 stops)
- The DLR is on the right-hand side.
Hint: You want to visit several events in Cologne so that you have to spend a bit over an hour to get to Cologne only once
