The Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials (Max-Planck-Institut für Nachhaltige Materialien) is dedicated to both fundamental and applied research aimed at developing innovative materials for a sustainable future, with a focus on reducing CO2 emissions and conserving resources.

By applying methods of artificial intelligence and developing new approaches to metal extraction and recycling, the scientists at the institute aim to make a significant contribution to the transformation of industrial processes.

As part of an exclusive small-group tour, you will gain detailed insights into the institute’s pioneering research and have the opportunity to learn first-hand about the latest developments in the field of sustainable materials science.

Minimum age is 15 and you want to be technically interested (which probably many Mensans are)

Directions (from IBD Hotel)

Travel time is about 75 minutes ... including some potential waiting time for the trains and busses you will take
  • Take the foot bridge in front of Maritim Hotel towards the airport terminal C
  • Head for the local transport train station in the basement of terminal C "Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal (S)"
  • Take the local train S1 or S11 in the direction of Düsseldorf central station "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof"
  • Get off at "D-Derendorf" (2 stops)
  • Take the bus 834 in the direction "Düsseldorf Hbf" up to "Sohnstraße"
  • Walk against the direction of the bus for about 150 meters
  • Before the traffic lights turn right across the parking lot
  • The entrance to the "Max-Planck-Institut" is just behind the parking lot

Directions (from Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof)

Travel time is approx. 25 minutes
  • Take the bus 834 in the direction of "D-Belsenplatz" up to "Sohnstraße" (7 stops)
  • Walk in the direction of the bus for about 150 meters
  • Then proceed as indicated above
  • ... or find some more direct route
