Public Transport during IBD+: Congress Ticket (VRR on Thursday until Sunday)

All IBD+ 2025 guests will get the so-called “Congress Ticket” for local public transport so that you can use local transport to travel to the events we prepared for visitors.

This ticket will be printed on your badge. Make sure to carry it on you at all times. When together with Mensans, you spontaneously might want to extend your itinerary.

The ticket you will get is valid from Thursday, October 23rd until Monday morning 3:00 o'clock (3am), October 27th in the complete VRR region as well as for trips to Cologne on Friday, October 24th.

Local trains plan: Schienenschnellverkehrsplan.pdf.
Düsseldorf Central station is the big white square to the lower left; the Airport and thus Terminal C near Maritim Hotel ist on the green line to the left above that square.

Please note that it is not valid on ICEs (InterCity trains) but just regional ones (you want to watch this when travelling to e.g. Cologne or Duisburg).

Sorry: We can't give you this ticket before your arrival at Martim Hotel. Fortunately for those flying into Düsseldorf it is a short walk to the Hotel; if you come by train you and take it up the the Düsseldorf Airport railway station and from there use the Syk Train free of charge to get to the other side of the airport where Martim Hotel is.

Public transport add-on: Cologne (VRS on Friday)

In addition to the above we added a second region on Friday only that includes Cologne to the tickets you get since on that day we offer quite a few events in Cologne.

This is the VRS region included in your ticket for Friday (the language changing does not work too well on that page... but the picture should be fine)

Maritim Hotel and DUS Airport

Maritim Hotel to S11 (Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal)

  • Leave the Maritim Hotel through the main entrance on the ground floor next to the reception.
  • Turn left and walk past the staircase tower of “Parking 8” towards the airport building and enter it.
  • You are now on the arrivals level. Follow the signs for “S-Bahn S11/Local trains.”
  • Just in front of McDonald’s, take the moving walkway down to the station.
  • The S11 to "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)" departs from platforms 10 and 11.

If it is raining hard, you might prefer the roofed in foot path to the airport:
  • If you're on the ground floor where the hotel’s reception is take the stairs or elevator up to first floor, the conference level.
  • On the first floor of Maritim Hotel - with IBD meeting room, organisation office, board game room, etc. - head for the large hall.
  • At the end of that hall between the two bars (Galeriebar and Morley’s Bar) is the exit to the elevated footpath towards Düsseldorf Airport – go for it.
  • After taking the footbridge and entering the airport building head one level down to the arrivals level and follow the signs for “S-Bahn S11/Local trains.”
  • Just in front of McDonald’s, take the moving walkway down to the station.
  • The S11 to "Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)" departs from platforms 10 and 11.

Guides and Travel Times for Events

For most events we offer a guide that will pick you up at the Maritim Hotel and accompany you to the event. You may certainly decline this offer and head for the event on your own.

Especially for the events we offer in other towns like Cologne, Wuppertal etc. we do recommend visiting multiple events close by on the same day. You will need to find your way between events on your own, but you will save the travel time back and forth to the Maritim Hotel making more of the day.

No guide is planned for the events in Maritim Hotel - we are positively confident that you will be able to get there without assistance.

A group of walking Mensans usually needs twice the time you would need walking on your own. This has been reflected in the guided walking times, as well as some degree of tram/bus/train delays. So, if you start with your guide at the proposed time, you should arrive on time.

When booking events, you will not be able to book overlapping events, or the same event more than once - but you may certainly book two events where the time needed to get from one to the next might be too short to pass by Maritim Hotel to join the guide.

During the initial wishing phase these limitations certainly do not apply. The algorithm for allocating seats will ensure only, that you won't need to be at two different places at the same time. After the allocation, it is up to you to check that you have enough time to travel from one event to the next one.

Collisions in your bookings (that are perhaps none)

In the booking confirmation you will get a note about these three types of collisions:
  1. The events overlap as for their time
  2. You booked the same event at different times (to increas your chance of getting a seat)
  3. The time to travel from one event to the next might be tight (this is based on you joining the guide at Maritim Hotel to get there)
Rest assured that the alogrithm will sort numbers 1 and 2 for you so you do not get the same event twice of have to be at different places at the same time.
The third collision is ignored by the algorithm allocating the seats so that that kind of collision is not blocking since you can more often than not travel from one to the next event directly.
