The European Mensa Juniors Camp (EMJC) offers children aged 12 to 17 the chance to meet like-minded peers, explore new cultures, and create lasting friendships. Participants engage in exciting excursions, choose a project on a topic that interests them, and experience being among others who truly understand the way they think.
Originating from Germany’s decades-long success with junior camps, the EMJC has been bringing this special experience to the international stage since 2022.
Questions & Answers
Who Can Attend?
The EMJC is open to all children and young people aged 12 to 17. Proof of giftedness is not required. We recognise that many highly intelligent children, regardless of test results, often feel isolated or misunderstood. Every year, we see these children thrive, gaining confidence and finding their place among peers who understand them.
Why Should I Attend?
Mensa Juniors Camps create a unique atmosphere that many participants describe as life-changing. Intelligent children, who may feel isolated at school, find a supportive environment where they are accepted and understood.
In addition to social growth, the EMJC offers opportunities to explore new cultures and topics. Projects are led by supervisors and range from programming, encryption, and neuroscience to creative subjects like art, music, and sports.
Simply put, it feels good to be among people who think like you and share your interests.
What Does a Typical Day Look Like?
Morning: Breakfast at your own pace, followed by mandatory project work from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Lunch: After the project session, lunch is served.
Early Afternoon: A camp meeting updates everyone on the day’s schedule and important announcements.
Afternoon Activities: Excursions such as museum visits, theatre tours, scavenger hunts, or bowling. Participation is voluntary, and children can also explore the hostel or, in small groups, the surrounding area.
Evening: Dinner at 6 p.m., followed by an evening programme (e.g., quiz nights, literature evenings, dance classes). Evening activities are optional — or you can simply relax with friends.
When and Where is the Next EMJC?
The EMJC usually takes place in the second half of October each year. Check our upcoming events overview for specific dates and locations.
What If I Don’t Have Holidays During the Camp?
As the EMJC is an educational event, children in Germany can usually be excused from school. We can provide a supporting letter for the school, although the final decision rests with each institution. Policies vary by country, so please verify the possibility in your area.
How Do I Get There?
Participants must arrange their own travel to and from the camp. Our responsibility starts at hostel check-in and ends at check-out.
However, we will share a list of participants’ hometowns (not full addresses) to help coordinate shared travel. Some supervisors will also be present at airports and train stations to assist with local transportation.
What is included in the price?
The camp participation fee covers accommodation, meals, excursions, and all activities offered.
Travel costs to and from the camp are not included.
How Do I Sign Up?
Registration for the EMJC usually opens in August and runs through September.
Sign up via the link provided on our event page. Detailed instructions are available there.
