Common Errors

Disclaimer: This page does not contain any new rules or new information – it is simply a summary of the pitfalls we have identified and serves as guidance for correcting discrepancies mainly in group bookings, so that they are error-free, and we can issue the booked and paid-for tickets.

Sorry that it’s a bit tricky to provide the correct details for group bookings. When we started out with group bookings we opted for a simple (crude) approach due to time and budget constraints.

One "side effect" is that the organisation committee will review your bookings and, in case of discrepancies, will notify you by email, so that you don’t end up paying for tickets that are invalid due to incorrect details, cannot be issued, or you receive fewer tickets than expected.

Hint: Keep an eye on your inbox (and SPAM folder), so you’ll be aware if we notify you about any discrepancies to be corrected.

Change booking

Hint: Read the page Amend Booking to ensure you don't by accident cancel everything or loose event seats.
... this did happen to some already!

You really want to read the booking summary before clicking on "Confirm Reservation" or "Book with payment".

Group booking

Most events support group bookings where you get several tickets for yourseld and others so you are sure to be able to go to the event together.

Hint: Please read Group Booking to get things right and thus what you want.

Field "Seats"

When making a group booking you need to enter the correct number of tickets in the field "Seats".

In this example 3 (three) seats are booked.

Please note: Only the value in the field "Seats" controls the number of tickets you pay and get
...assuming those you bring have booked the main event themselves!

Field "I book for me and (M-Nr or Email) - max x pers."

Enter the membership number including country prefix (that is the one used to log into the booking system of Mensa Germany) of those you book for
... or in case of non-Mensans the email address of the person's account.

In this example one membership number and one email address have been stated.

If the field is too short the global field "Overflow for I book for me and (M-Nr or Email)" can be used to enter the missing ones.

  • The person booking may not be included in here since it is not an additional person since the person booking always gets a ticket.
  • If possible (since nice and short) enter the membership number as used as userid in our booking system – that is the membership number in your country, prefixed by the country code as you use as username when logging into our systems.
    For the German member with number 12900 this would be 04912900.
  • If the user's account is not that of a member, please enter the email address of that account (the primary communication email address, if there is more than one).
    In case of Mensa members outside Mensa Germany the account has not been upgraded to a member account with a number as username, use the email address please.
  • As separator, please use the space character (i.e. not a comma or such)
  • Entries like "2 children" or the name of the other person is invalid.

Please note: Everyone you book for has to book the main event her or himself (see below)!

Field "Overflow for I book for me and (M-Nr or Email)"

This field that you can find in the "Options for the main event" is covered under the previous heading.

Non-Mensan

Everybody coming to the event must have an account on our booking system. Members of Mensa Germany have one automatically; all others can create one free of charge – see Register.

Please note: Everybody wanting to participate must have an account on our booking system... and use it to book!

No Participant

Those not booking anything themselves but relying on group bookings need to book the main event themselves to pay for the base fee.

This is true for children too – even for the very young ones who do not pay any base fee.

In this case those not booking any events need to book at lease the event "Someone books everything for me by group bookings":

Please note: If a person you book for did not book the main event as detailed above, you won't get the tickets (despite paying them).
